I agree, that moment with the deer is powerful. And Chris, I think that
scene works to sum up your intention without further explanation. Really
good job.

I too have visually seen many things like the Grand Canyon, mountains
and oceans either in person or at least in pictures. Like Atty and
Chris, I understand the "loss" of sight having once been fully sighted
nor having any reason to think I would one day be blind. Also like these
two, among many others, I know how I can still have moving experiences
nonvisually.

I think all blind people have that moment when they realize life isn't
all that bad without sight, but it seems especially poignant for those
who once had sight and lose it later.

I think Chris has done an exceptional job with this narrative, and he
really points to the heart of this concept without having to write it
out as such. That's the mark of a good writer when you can say what you
mean with sensory descriptions, metaphor and scenic development instead
of spelling it out when writing creatively. I enjoyed this piece for
many reasons, Chris.

Sincerely,
Bridgit Kuenning-Pollpeter

I loved that last part about the dear. I especially liked that you put
in
the hearing her part too. It made it incredably powerful.

I've seen the ocean, moutains, and Death Valley. I've seen snow and
forests.
I've seen the mighty Red Woods, and all of that before I went blind at
ten.

I've never seen the Grand Canyon while sighted, or blind, for that
matter,
but I felt like I was there and could smell the heat and snow of it.

Thanks!
Atty
