[stylist] Politics, Stylist and off-topic material

Barbara,

This discussion comes up on Stylist over and over again. I do see where
you are coming from, Barbara, but how does a lot of Stylist posts then
deal directly with writing?

In the last couple of months, a lot of post have popped up that, in my
opinion, have nothing to do with writing, and by some definitions,
belong on the writers chat instead, yet they are on Stylist. I
personally have no problem with this, and will simply not read a thread
if I don't find it of interest, but as I said, we always come back to
this discussion, and to be frank, it seems to be addressed when a post
or thread is not liked or rubs someone the wrong way.

I respect your opinion and post, but why are some off-topics never
addressed like this while others, such as this one, considered
inappropriate? I agree with Dave that perhaps this is not the forum to
discuss this particular subject matter of late, but that it's
inappropriate in-and-of-itself for Stylist, well, I just don't
understand why this post is not okay, yet discussing clothes we like or
NFB fundraisers or seemingly private conversations never gets a comment.

Lynda said something to this affect a while back, but anything we choose
to discuss informs us who we are as a person, which is reflected in our
writing. And considering this is an online forum, we must write to
communicate, and to effectively communicate in the written form, it
takes strong writing skills. To craft an opinion on any topic requires
solid writing, so therefore, this would appear to be appropriate for
Stylist.

And now I'm off to relax after Little Man decided to rise at six o clock
in the morning today, grin.

Bridgit, that's when you go to the writer's chat list. It's this topic
and
such off stuff that we wanted that list for. It's stuff we want to talk

about sometimes but it has nothing to do with writing, and yet it can be
the
inspiration that leads you are someone else to write.
Barbara

And I was waiting for it. There she be, folks.

No rehashing or dealing, merely sharing an opinion based on other recent
posts.
