[stylist] Poem for Nebraska friends

Lynda,
I have taken the liberty of printing your poem for my poetry class teacher,
Pauline Mouncy, who was born and raised on a Nebraska farm. Much of her
poetry is about the childhood, and the history of Nebraska. She published,
"The Lucid Stone," for years.
My experience with Nebraska was driving across it at over 70 miles per hour
for a summer job from college back east, in Wyoming. The main thing I
remember is the flat uninteresting landscapes and the turtles crossing the
highway and trying to avoid them. Later I took the train and after trying to
appreciate it, I read a book.
It is nice to hear a more interesting viewpoint on it. Also, increased years
add to the appreciation of habits and the history of all inhabitants of any
state. Thank you.
Jackie

Attached is "Nebraska" a poem.
I wrote this poem as I traveled by car across Nebraska on my way to Silicone
Valley, California - in 1991.
I found it as I am sifting through my poetry archives. I did a bit of
tweaking to tighten it up today - thus the copyright change from 1999 to
2013.

As we traveled my husband was driving and as we crossed over one state after
another, I was jotting down imagery and notes that later were crafted into
poems.
