My dad has it in the car, and he could get me the receiver then if it is 
free with our subscription.

I don't know if its accessible either; but, I suppose the way to find out is 
to see one and decide.
I love xm. They have stations for various decades; so if I want some ray gay 
music, go to the 70s station and if I want elvis, turn to channel 6 for 60s.
Those songs have inspired some free writes of mine. particularly the songs 
about the summer and surfing; reminds me of the beach.

Also, no  not all of us want smart phones. if only  verizon would offer more 
talking phones! Not everyone wants to pay a fortune of like hundreds for the 
I phone.

I'd talk to the company if I were you and ask about the receiver; ask if its 
touch screen or if all stuff is knob based.

I'm still back in the previous century, kind of. I have one of those talking 
phones called the Samsung Haven. It's a dumb phone. Maybe at some point I 
will get a smart one. I originally asked this question because we have XM 
for the car. XM offered me a free receiver, and I could have paid another 
$9.95 to get the thing to play, but I turned it down, because I had no idea 
if I could use it.

You know, you can download an XM radio app for IPhones and other smart
phones, and the phone is completely accessible. Can't speak for the app,
but this is a much cheaper option, and at least with the IPhone, I can
say it has great sound quality.

jim,
I was hoping to have a stand alone receiver too, which is why I made the
comment about not caring to listen to music on an I device. If the
receiver has buttons, it should be accessible enough to use; I may not
be able to read the display though but at least I could turn the
channels then.

great question! if I knew the receivers were accessible, I might
subscribe to the service. Even if I had a smart phone, I would not want
to listen to radio on my phone all the time. I like good high quality
speakers which I can hear through several rooms. I know that services
has an I phone ap, and I think I heard it was accessible; not sure about
other smart phone platforms though.
