Hi Thea,
I have four powerful reactions after reading your article. Firstly--wow...
Secondly, I'm so sorry this happened to you. Thirdly, I feel certain I
could never be an evil mastermind, because I could never dream up a scam
like this. And fourthly, I bet this is one of the few times in life when you
can honestly say, "Thank God I'm poor!"
Editorially, I think your piece could be tightened up a bit, but in general
it holds the reader and is very compelling. You successfully had me
thinking--I hope those bastards get what's coming to them.
Which brings me to the question--isn't there a way of figuring out who they
are? It seems the cops can always track and figure out who someone is, if
they want to badly enough. Did you have to pay a fee to join the site? That
seems like an easy way to trace them to me. And even if they used a
throw-away phone, they had to buy minutes for it, and that purchase should
be traceable.
But I suppose this is not very important to the people with the power to do
something about it. I'm sorry you got hurt, but of course, it could have
been worse, and maybe your story will catalyze action by those with power
and authority.
