HI Chris,
Can't remember if I've already responded to your comments, so forgive,
great Thetis, if I repeat myself. I'm always a little tentative about
"True Romance" as not everyone's seen the film, and then of course
there's the vulgarity issue. That scene, in which Dennis Hopper, bound
to a chair, drives Chris Walken to shoot him before Walken tortures him
into betraying his son, always fires an electric arrow into my heart.
I've tried to express that feeling here, as well as the reasons for it.
For some, I've succeeded, but for you hard-nosed artists here, well, not
so much. I welcome your comments anyway, and look forward to the
challenge of writing things which do please you in the future. I mean,
that can be the greatest game, don't you agree?
Naming that poem "Antoinette" was a little Tricksy Baggins, I guess.
The poem is about poverty, and I had thought that the name "Antoinette"
would evoke Marie Antoinette's infamous declaration, "Let them eat
cake!" I guess it didn't. Well, that's showbiz; time to scratch around
for a better title, maybe.
Finally, Chris, now that I know what flash fiction is, I admire your FF
piece very much and look forward to reading your work in the future. To
quote a personal angel, "Louis, this could be the beginning of a
beautiful relationship."
highest regards,
Bill
To be honest, True Romance was a little long for me. I get it, meaning I
can
fill in the blanks, see the people, we all know their stories. But for
me,
it doesn't evoke the same emotion as reading/watching 'The Godfather' or
'The Sopranos' or 'Good Fellas'. I do appreciate you sharing it, and
keep
on writing.
