Chris, You could never truly know how this beautiful musing has touched me.
I actually felt tingles while reading.
When I moved to Arizona a few years ago, I did so by acting under the
concept of a great natural phenomenom coming to destroy my home and
belongings. I could only take what was most treasured as space at moment
was limited and so I was using that as my guide to choose. I had thought it
worked rather well, but as I still kept my home, I must have retained some
sense of security that all was still there.
Last summer, my daughter had returned home to Idaho and had found that the
house had been burglarized and trashed. So much of what is gone pains me
deeply. Every once in a while, I will think of something and react with
tears when I realize it is gone.
I have some precious items though, that I chose before all had happened and
truly, what does it matter? I have my memories. I know this is what is most
important. This is what we take with us when we are truly gone after all,
not the posessions.
So thank you for sharing something that is not just well written, but
emotionally beautiful and important for all of us.
