Shelly,

I have a three-year-old, so I do read a lot of children' books. He's really
into the Grimm fairytales right now and Thomas the Train. Personally, I
don't read Children's lit, but I do enjoy Young Adult fiction. There are
some really great YA novels out there.

Ash by Melinda Lo is a fantastic Cinderella rendering. It has won awards and
is beautifully written. Personally, I think this novel should be a part of
high school reading.

For you SciFi fans, The Lunar Chronicles: Cinder, Scarlett, Cress:, Fairest:
Levana's Story and Winter by Marissa Meyer, are fun and great modern takes
on old fairytales. Taking Cinderella, Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel and Snow
White, but these YA novels are not fantasy but SciFi and very entertaining.

Two Children's Lit novels I am in love with are: The Girl who Circumvented
Fairyland in a Ship of Her own Making and The Girl who fell Beneath
Fairyland and led the Revels There by Catherynne M Valente. Two fractured
fairytales, the second being a sequel. A coming of age sort of story, and
just so well written, a fantastic story with really great characters. I was
really captivated by both novels.

Two series I will forever be in love with are the Anne of Green Gables
series and the Emily of New Moon trilogy by Lucy Maud Montgomery. I grew up
reading these novels and still love them today.

Subject: [stylist] Looking for ideas on good children's books

Hey guys, while we are discussing books let me throw something out there.
Lately, I have been reading children's books. Not sure why maybe just
because it's something different and I've always been drawn to children's
stories. Maybe it was because I like to read is that you and I want to be
reminded of when I read though I'm sure I don't remember most of it. Just
wondering if you've read any good children books and if you might recommend
one or two. Maybe, I will write one some day.
