[stylist] Back to Writing? Obituaries?

Chris,
Your thoughts are beautiful to me, and very much akin to what I want.
I am thinking of a book I read in the past by Mary Roach, I think. I believe
it followed her best seller named, "Stiff." It explored the movement toward
true "planting" of the remains of one who desires this.
I found your wish to have your ashes to be put in a hole for a maple tree to
be planted, as an absolutely inspiring desire for the ongoingness of your
"self."
I have also read "the Seven Habits..." and perhaps that is when I started
writing obituaries, in a more serious way. It seems to give a direction to
one's life that might be missing otherwise.
And check with your wife. What a way to go!
Thank you for taking up the prompt.
I will include another once I see what the response is.

Hi Jackie,

I enjoyed your poems, and your fake obituary very much. My wish, after the
final day comes, is also for my family to walk deep into the woods of
Vermont, where people and industrialization isn't likely to happen for more
than another century or two, dig a big hole and put my ashes in it, along
with a small maple tree, so I can become a part of that tree as it grows.

I've never written my own obit, although I'm currently re-reading 'The Seven
Habits of Highly Effective People', and one of the first exercises is to
write your own obituary--the one you want people to read--to help you focus
on what is really important in your life.

Mine would be simple. I want the cause of death to be that I was hit by a
bus (quick--no drawn out illness for me) or died when his parachute didn't
open while sky diving (exciting), or had a heart attack during sex--although
that might be horribly traumatic for my poor wife.He was a good husband, a
good father, a loving son and sibling, a published writer (technically, it's
true) and someone who always helped those around him.

Chris
