Or take Chris's advice, you can't go wrong with that!

Hi Sem,

I've been told that the law is a bit ambiguous when it comes to music
lyrics, but a good rule of thumb is less than 2 lines are okay to use if you
credit the musician/writer at the end, but more than 2 lines (continuous)
you should seek permission to use.

So I think a line to start off your chapters is fine. And if you find an
agent/publisher who wants your book, I'm sure they'll know the legalities.

Chris

HI everyone. Wondering if anyone knows the answer to this or where to look.
I'm working on...probably a book, but it cold be a long story, as these
things tend to take on a life of their own and I never know until it's done
how long it will really be. LOL. So I'm making some of the chapters lines to
songs. How much can I legally use, of course giving the artist credit at the
end of the book in a list, without having to pay for it, or can I do this at
all without having to pay royalties?
