Sem,

Sounds like Portland is definitely a place to hit up, smile.

I was a vocal performance major back during my first round at university. I
had a lot of friends in bands, mostly rock. A friend and I use to debate
over whether screaming was an actual artform or not, whether it takes talent
or not, LOL! His band (who I sang frequently with) were emo/alternative/rock
that sang with screaming thrown in. I never screamed when performing with
them. I was the token chick in the group, LOL! But we had many a discussion
on the topic. I will say this, it takes some level of talent to scream an
entire set and not lose your voice, grin.

My brother, also a musician, and who also has a band that has screaming in
their sets, debates the same issue. Though as he gets older, his style is
more rock/folksy. And to my brother's credit, he appreciates all types of
music from all eras.

Hi Atty and all. Portland all in all was pretty good. Very good
transportation and we got around very well. Mostly everyone was really
friendly and helpful too. We really enjoyed the Russian restaurant at which
we dined, and it's' actually great as in preparing the Russian food
correctly. My husband, being Russian, would know. LOL.And most of it I'd
never had and really enjoyed. We totally pigged out. HAHA. We enjoyed the
metaphysical bookstore, Moon Shadow that we went to. He added the
necronomicon tarot deck to his vast collection, as a reader he's got loads,
but of course has to connect with them so won't just take anything, and I
found a cool bronze bat on a pentagram that's supposed to be a pendant but I
turned it into a bracelet. LOL I have a bat jewelry collection and at least
this particular bracelet is a different style so that makes it necessary,
right? Right. LOL. They had nice stuff and we enjoyed looking around. A
little something for all pantheons and walks as it were. The only
disappointment was sadly the Lovecraft bar. It was cool with the decor as we
expected but no sitting at the bar to socialize easily with anyone you don't
already know. Just tables and you order at the bar but no where to sit. And
it's very dark. Yes bars are dark in general but this was really hardly lit.

My husband can usually take his dark over glasses off and see fine with just
the vision ones in other dimmer bars, but he did that in this one and still
had a very difficult time and he's got good distance vision. It's just
tunnel vision so shouldn't matter there so ,much. So in short that means it
was super really dark. LOL. Sorta detracted from the fun. Also the pissy bar
keep who muttered and seemed to have trouble hearing us. Kinda
horrifying...which fit a horror bar. It's all damn, the locals aren't being
friendly and don't even seem to care about our business. Isn't that a bad
sign? Should we not run now before something comes up out of the floor with
18 heads and eats us? LOL. And the drinks were screwy. Usually drinks at a
bar are pricy so we want to get our money's worth and to be sure of that
usually ordering a Long Island iced tea does it as it's sure to give you a
buzz where as other pricy drinks may be poorly made, i.e weaker and you'll
net get the proper kick for your dollar. Never have I been screwed over by a
Long Island Iced Tea, though, but this time we were. Didn't feel crap from
it though it did taste right. Then the band playing was bad. Well bad if you
hate it 4 times, aprox, times louder than very loud. LOL. And it was screamo
stuff I guess. Could be off, as it's not my type of music, but it was very
hard and the words? Think they were saying words were literally screamed and
elongated at the top of their lungs where the voice is distorted so sounds
like the stuff called Screamo I've heard. Theirs are so many categories of
music, though, that perhaps there is another variation that others would
know and find to be a completely type of horrid roaring. I mean we're into
hard rock. Well into all sorts of music, but we loves us some AC/DC,
Twisted Sister, Ozzy, Scorpions, Alice Cooper, Kiss, Skid Row, Guns and
Roses, Joan Jet, and the list goes on and on. So it's not that it was just
harder and we can't take it. Anyway, everyone else inteh bar seemed to be
loving it so to each his own, and sorry to any Screamo fans out there or
whatever. Merely expressing my opinion. LOL. But really that was the least
annoyance as it's easy enough to leave. LOL. So just was a little
disappointed there. There were nice incenses burning that smelled nice, the
place had a cool visual vibe for what could be seen with horror themes
everywhere, but just yeah. Cups were normal. I think cups shaped like skulls
at the very least, at the bottom of creativity, would've been decent, and
they're like at dollar tree every fall for Halloween. LOL. I was thinking
how it's sad when I have an original character in the HP games, Aberforth
Dumbledore's long lost daughter, who decorated the Hog's Head and did far
better as the cups and spoons and such were also themed. Just the pissy
service was not cool but yeah it was at least spooky. Somehow I don't think
that was the aim, though. LOL.
In general, though there is loads to do in Portland and I wish we had more
time to explore. We'll definitely go back to Portland, just not to that bar.

I'm friends with the monster that's under my bed.
I get along with the voices inside of my head.
