Well, yes, I mean demon in the Christian sense, grin.

Lots of words and phrases have quite different meanings and origins than
what Christianity turned them into. And not knocking Christianity here,
truly, just stating a fact after years of study and learning about this
stuff.

LOL Well not all demons are bad, as the word Demon for the Greeks merely
meant knowledge. But yes, Brigit, it sounds like a ghost. Maybe a child or
smaller/shorter person who passed. If the presence was the bad sort of
demonic or just evil in general trust me you'd have felt it. Were in an old
cemetery once and my friends and I got so freaked out. Sorta dirty feeling,
like spiritual rape. Like someone stuck their hand in cow crap that was
upset then smeered it all over our souls. So yeah, you'd know that sort of
energy if it had been in your house. We had just gone there to look at the
old graves, and nothing more. We fled the place praying and singing hems,
not something we usually did. Bad stuff. Kept feeling for says after like I
was in some horror movie waiting for something bad to happen. Really weird.
But just saying, you'd have known, especially you being an empath.

I'm friends with the monster that's under my bed.
I get along with the voices inside of my head.
