I thought the booth was empty
Till a sniffle reached my ear,
And a husky voice was murmurring
"It will get better, dear."

The coffee shop was empty
But for us and a table more
Of gamesters playing scrabble
For fun, not keeping score.

"This is just too much take, Paul,"
The woman whisper-cried,
"I can't eat. Let's get it over
Since we're certain the baby died."

I brought my thoughts back to my book
Of abnormal psychology,
