Jennifer,

Welcome to the list. I love your surname, grin.

I have my BFA in creative writing and just started my MFA in writing. Are
you pursueing a MA or MFA? When I was waiting to receive my MFA acceptance,
I looked into a few online programs, and there are a couple that are really
good. Have you considered a low-residency program? That's what I'm doing.
Basically, and it can vary from program to program, but essentially you turn
in a packet of writing every four weeks, and twice a year, you attend a
writing conference. My conferences last ten days. So no classes; you're not
on a campus, but with the conferences, you still have the opportunity to
learn and meet people in person, plus discuss your own writing in person.

I primarily write creative nonfiction, so memoir/personal essay. But I also
write fiction. I've only had nonfiction published so far, but I also don't
work on my fiction as much. The NFB Writers' Division has a publication,
Slate & Style, you can submit too. Breath and Shadow and Magnets and Ladders
are two other publications publishing writers with disabilities. I do a lot
of Google searches for publications and individual submission guidelines for
whatever publication I hope to submit too. There's a lot out there.

Since I know what you're going through, if you need any help with grad
school, or have questions or comments, please let me know.

Good luck and welcome to Stylist.

Bridgit

Hello all,

I am Jennifer Applegate, and I was just added to the stylist list serve. I
obtained a BA English from University of Texas at Austin in August 2014, and
I am applying to start an online MA English & Creative Writing program.

I have written quite a bit of poems, a nonfiction story somewhat based on my
life experiences, and I am working on my autobiography, Overcoming, which is
currently twelve pages. I hope some of y'all can provide me advice about
how/where I can publish poems and critique my autobiography in progress. I
plan to use it as my MA English & Creative Writing entrance writing sample.

I wrote two poems about overcoming too, and I will share my poems with any
of y'all who want to read them.

Thank you to the NFB Writers Division members who keep this organization
thriving and inspire me to continue sharing my writing.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Applegate
