If you think you might need an editor--you probably need an editor. In all
the articles I've read about self-publishing, and advice from agents--the
number one critique is that writers don't do a good job editing their own
work. Bridgit's suggestion to continually work on your craft is spot on, in
my opinion, but in the meantime, you should find someone who knows what they
are doing and isn't afraid of hurting your feelings. If you don't want
honest criticism, don't bother paying someone.
