[stylist] Writing Software

Ashley,

I think Scrivener sounds great for when ready to complete a final manuscript
of longer material. But in terms of the organization, one, though plenty of
blind people use it, I think it's handy for people who can see the screen
and immediately notice where everything is, and two, it's just a different
method for organizing, not necessarily better or worse, just another method.
Much like screenreaders or Macs and PCs, it's all about what you prefer or
works for you.

Bridgit,

I have the same question. I've just created folders to place files in that
go together. Like all my history class stuff together and all my research on
a certain composer together. I also have subfolders to subdivide some of my
work.
So, I'm not sure the benefits of software for such organization purposes.
Glad its not just me.

It would probably make more sense if I actually worked with it, but I don't
fully understand how keeping a folder with files in Word is incredibly
different from a program like Scribner keeping the material together. I see
a lot of benefits from Scribner described by many here, but this is one of
those things I'm not entirely getting. I can create folders with files for
respective work, all handy in My Documents. I've done this for school, work
and personal writing with no problem. So how is Scribner different for
organization?

Scrivener is great! I had a complicated system I used for years and it
worked for me - nested folders and all. Until I lost my vision.

Scrivener now holds everything together, and can compile and export into a
variety of documents - pdf, doc, docx, epub, possibly mobi, and more.

Now, I am dumping everything I have into Scrivener before I lose my
remaining vision. I think I dropped the last item in yesterday.

I wrote up notes on using it with the Mac and my specific braille display.
I'd gladly share that chapter with anyone who needs it, to your email
address. Even if you don't use a braille display, or this specific one, you
should be able to determine what the key combination is if you are used to
using a screen reader.
