Greetings everyone! In two weeks it will be time for our monthly Division gathering by telephone. On November 27 Sarah Harris will be our guest presenter. Sarah has self-published ten books under the series title Rock Creek. Her work features both blind and sighted characters. Her work is available also through Tate Publishing Company. Sarah writes: I began writing the Rock creek series June 7, 2015. I have always been an avid reader and wanted to see if I could write something other than college research papers. At the time, I didn’t know I would begin writing a series of romance novels. I am currently writing the tenth book in the series. The books take place in the Texas Panhandle, which is where I live. I just changed the names of the towns except Amarillo since that is a well-known place. Some of the main characters are totally blind, and the books are written in first-person.
My first editor was my boss at the community college where I am a writing tutor. One day, I asked him if the books are good enough to publish, and he said yes. I should explain that he used to work for Barnes & Noble prior to working at frank Phillips College. After talking to friends and doing some online research, I decided to go the self-publishing route. It often costs thousands of dollars to publish books, which I am not able to afford. A local printing company designs the book covers, and my teenage sons help me upload the books since some of that is not accessible with jaws. The books are available digitally from such places as iBooks, amazon, and Barnes & Noble and in paperback through createspace and Amazon. I use Draft2digital and Kindle direct publishing to upload the books, which is free. The first five books in the series are available and are A Song in the Heart, hope in the Heart, joy in the Heart, Peace in the Heart, and faith in the heart.
I am also publishing the first four books in the series since that was all that had been edited at the time to the Christian publisher Tate Publishing. A song in the heart is available in paperback through their online store and has a release date of January 10th. It’s exciting and overwhelming at the same time because there is so much to learn. My college degree is not in marketing. Tate Publishing provides lifetime marketing for the books. This is a fun journey, and I hope what I write will touch people’s lives.
The contact information for the gathering is below.
