Thanks for your response. I did post an earlier version of this story on the list a couple of years ago.
Actually, this was the third time I sent it to the magazine. The first time, it was rejected, but the editor thought it a good concept (just needed shortening and tightening up). The second time, I got a rejection because the ending was week and it needed serious punctuation work. The third time was the charm.
Bewildering Stories is a good place to submit science fiction because you get an actual critique (not just a form letter) when your stuff gets rejected and they will let you try again.

Shawn,
My most sincere congratulations for your feat of submitting to a general publication, and taking your chances with that great world of writing out there.
I copied and pasted it from the magazine for more serious reading in a few days. I started it and somehow it rang a bell from some time ago. I remember the bowling and some other details.
I am taking a general writing class now besides my poetry, and I really want to study this.
The genre is not one of my serious interests, but it is a very popular genre, and there are always many books in that category in the monthly cartridge I get.
I have always admired the quality of your writing, and your occasional forays into poetry.
More later about this.
Incidentally, I think I heard something about the awards for the 2017 writing contest could not be mailed until you retrieved the necessary addresses.
For your information, mine is:

I hope this helps.
Keep writing and submitting.

Writer and Federation friends
I just got a story accepted by Bewildering stories, an online mag that does mostly science fiction and fantasy work. It is the first general population, non-disability mag that I've been accepted in, so I'm feeling really good about it. Ain't no big deal in the world, but for me it's a milestone.
Please let me know if there is an accessibility issue with getting to the story. If there is, I will let the magazine know.
Shawn
