[Stylist] Flying Off to Wales

Dear NFB Writers,

I am pleased to share with you a poem that was published in Mingled Voices
3,  International  Proverse (Hone Kong) Poetry Prize Anthology, 2018.

I received my copy of this anthology today.  This is my second year to be
included in the Proverse collections - I have 2 poems in this year's
publication.

 

The poem is:

"Flying Off To Wales."  It was inspired by an e-mail conversation I had with
my friend, Dr. Ann Paton, who is a retired English Professor from Geneva
College, as well as an Episcopal Priest.  She spends time each year in Wales
- and she is now 92 years young.   The poem is also included in my
forthcoming full-length book, Star Signs: New & Selected Poems, 2019.  

 

Here is the poem for your enjoyment today.

"Flying Off to Wales"

 

Tomorrow

I'll be flying off to Wales 

for vacation in our usual place, 

 

What do we do there?  

 

Walk the coastal path

or sometimes 

just gaze at the sea

read

nap

revisit old friends. 

 

Attend choral evensong 

at cathedral every evening 

read

nap

For me, that's an ideal vacation.

St. David's is an ancient village, 

the cathedral, a holy place 

where prayer has been read daily 

for over a thousand years!
