[Stylist] A message of Inspiration

Brigit,
I do not think the poet who wrote this was trying to be realistic. The idea,
to me, was to think beyond all that is happening now and transpose it to
future change where everyone in the world who has lived through this will
think of new ways in principles of basic living. It will be actions that are
compatible with a surviving earth. Rose-colored glasses are necessary to
believe this, and of course, for you and Ericka, the details do not apply.
But the basic message is still there. Hope.
My son, who has been on leave from the now closed Mesa Public Schools, still
goes to the school every Friday night to turn on the stadium lights for a
half-hour. It is to thank all the service providers, and to provide hope. I
guess that means you and Ericka.

Jackie,

Thanks for sharing. I love the sentiments of the poem, but from a practical
perspective, not everyone is able to stay at home and reflect , learning new
things, enjoying pastimes. Some of us are not only working from home, but
trying to homeschool on top of everything else. I would love to be able to
focus on myself right now; I would love time to be quiet and read a book or
catch up on a show. I had to start exercising late at night right now just
because I don't have time during the day. So, I agree with the reflections
this poet is making, but practically speaking, this is not the situation for
everyone.

Bridgit

I wish I had written this. I was sent this by a cousin in Minneapolis. It
makes me want to go back to poetry. I hope it will inspire all of you.

AND THE PEOPLE STAYED HOME
AND READ BOOKS, AND LISTENED, AND
RESTED AND EXERCISED, AND MADE ART
AND PLAYED GAMES, AND LEARNED NEW
WAYS OF BEING, AND WERE STILL, AND
LISTENED MORE DEEPLY. SOME
MEDITATED, SOME PRAYED, SOME
DANCED, SOME MET THEIR SHADOW.
AND THE PEOPLE BEGAN TO THINK DIFFERENTLY AND THE PEOPLE HEALED AND IN THE
ABSENSE OF PEOPLE LIVING IN IGNORANT, DANGEROUS, MINDLESS AND HEARTLESS
WAYS, THE EARTH BEGAN TO HEAL.
AND WHEN THE DANGER PASSED,
AND THE PEOPLE JOINED TOGETHER AGAIN
THEY GRIEVED THEIR LOSSES, AND MADE
NEW CHOICES, AND DREAMED NEW
IMAGES AND CREATED NEW WAYS TO LIVE
AND HEAL THE EARTH FULLY,
AS THEY HAD BEEN HEALED.
