Subject: [Tall-Corn] Iowa Diecast Racers

Greetings,

When it comes to diecast racing, I for one face a double-whammy. On the one
hand, the misguided pros of collecting only, buying cheap Hot Wheels, or
paying way too much for supposedly classic quality diecast vehicles. On the
other hand, the equally misguided notions of a childhood only toy and (along
with full sized vehicles) unfitting for blind citizens to deal with. Long
story short, I for one am breaking the stereotypical mold. As an appropriate
theme song, find "All Star"
by Smash Mouth. Consider this nonvisual idea. Aside from walking around a
used car lot or watching cars go by on a busy street, how else do we learn
the shapes, colors, styles, textures, makes, models, etc. of automobiles?
For the most part, picking up a Hot Wheels or Matchbox diecast vehicle is a
great way to learn a 3 dimensional overview of the overall physical
features. One more point to ponder:
If not already there, diecast racing is fast approaching the level of an
official sport *for all ages and backgrounds* no different than viewing the
World Poker Challenge on Stadium TV. Search on Facebook for Iowa Diecast
Racers and join us. Browse through the myriad of posts and commentary from
the basics to advanced diecast racing topics. Also, look for Orange Track
Racing, a Cedar Rapids based diecast racing organization (in existence for
sixteen years) I take part in. As for at least one blind individual, a lot
has been learned.
Yet, more knowledge and experience is being had.

Cheers and Happy Hot Wheeling!

Wade Hemmelrick
