You can of course leave any list at any time. 
Chapter membership is not contingent on joining a list.

Also, traffic on most lists tends to be cyclical, 
and will die down. With a convention, traffic will increase.

You could also change to digest mode, you get one 
big message, em compassing everything for the last 24 hours.
