Scott:

I plan on being there for the Capitol day. I'd be glad to set up
appointments with my legislators if I know when it's best to meet them..
Could I have a more detailed schedule for the day? I look forward to this.
We used to do this every year when I was in the Minnesota NFB and I got to
know my legislators pretty well as a result.

Subject: [Tall-Corn] Capitol day January 16

Good Evening Fellow Federationists:

Just a quick reminder about our capitol day on Tuesday, January 16, 2024!
This is our chance to get in front of legislators with our own legislative
priorities for the National Federation of the Blind of Iowa which include
the accessible prescription and accessible voting bills. If you are planning
to attend and have not le Bob Ray or Mary McGee know as members of the
legislative committee, please do so no later than December 20th. We need to
turn names into the DD council so that we can go through training that
morning on legislative advocacy and then go to the capitol that afternoon.
Lunch will be provided. We would like to get a group of at least 10
Federationists together for this, and you'll also want to make sure
appointments are made with your legislators that afternoon. I'll let the
committee fill in the details that I might have missed. The DD council is
providing a grant to help with transportation costs as needed, provided
receipts are furnished. I know a few people from des Moines plan to go, but
let's see who else we can get to help spread our message!

Also, if you have made contact with your legislators and have not sent
copies of your letters to the legislative committee, please do so. This
ensures the committee knows where things stand and who to lean on for
support. It is extremely critical that we get some republicans to join with
us in both chambers, because without them, our legislation won't be
introduced.

Let's make this a successful capitol day at the beginning of the session!
Please reach out to me or the legislative committee with any questions.
Thanks, and let's go build the National Federation of the Blind of Iowa and
get our legislators on board with these important initiatives!
