[Tall-Corn] FW: Update Regarding NFB-NEWSLINE Outage

Good Evening Federation Family:

I know there have been some issues with NFB Newsline lately. See below. In
addition, there are some things you'll want to be aware of.

The outage was caused by a hardware failure in the server responsible for
newsline, and they made the decision to complete the migration to the cloud
at that time.

This migration was already underway prior to the hardware failure, but it
was stepped up due to the failure of the hard drive.

At this time, the following services are considered working.

Access via smart displays, (mantus, e-readers, etc.), the mobile app, victor
readers, and telephone.

The following services are still considered down.

The Alexa skill, and nfbnewsline.net

The Washington post is being worked on and issues with the New York Times
are being researched.

The website for administrative tasks and adding new content is also part of
what is offline. Chelsea or I will advise when we can get back into the
system and resume normal operations in the Iowa channel and user accounts as
needed.

This is an important update regarding NFB-NEWSLINE. Late last week, the
NFB-NEWSLINE service experienced a disruption on one of our servers
responsible for managing online services and receiving publication files
from publishers. 

This resulted in an outage affecting the iOS app, NFB-NEWSLINE Mobile, Web
News on Demand, the Amazon Alexa skill, downloads to portable players such
as the Victor Reader, and delivery of emails to subscribers.

While most of the service is restored, we are actively working to restore
service as soon as possible to the Amazon Alexa skill.

Additionally, there are a number of newspapers that still need to be brought
up to date on the system. To update these publications, it will be necessary
for us to work closely with the individual publishers of the content. We
anticipate that we will have all these publications updated over the next
week.
