Dear friends,

I hope to find you well.

As a federation family, we take any discriminatory actions against anyone as serious. Past cases and legal actions taken by the NFB have proven this.

I have read President Riccobono’s response to Miss Anderson. Mr. Riccobono expressed his concern because he himself is a parent.

However, the documentation and issues presented in the case do not call into question blindness as an issue. It is an unfortunate but ugly custody case .

To say that the Tennessee affiliate or the NFB does not take discrimination seriously, or the attempt of any court or establishment who attempts to remove a child is false . You can easily look at the record of the federation to know that is untrue.

Besides, Miss Anderson has for some time been an inactive member of the federation and not a regular contibutor to the group. Ms. Anderson's past attnedance has caused contention for both chapters and the affiliate in the past.

No matter the situation, it is so sad for a family having to go through such a nasty custody battle. It is especially unfrotunate for the children because they are the ones who suffer the most

I suggest, therefore, not to come to a quick judgement and create assumptions without having details and evidence of the proceedings. based on a couple of emails an individual has written.

The NFB has always stood behind and will continue to stand behind any blind parent who is being discriminated.

If for some reason the HQ of the NFB and the President himself have reviewed the court documents, and it has been evident that the non-member’s complaint is in fact is not related to discrimination because of blindness there is a very good reason for it. Our federation is a strong, proud advocate for the blind.; we encompass love, unity, determination to make a difference and support any who are dealing with difficult circumstances. You can look at decades of our records that undoubtedly call out any discrimination and fight for the rights of the blind.

 Best.

I am the individual who wrote in a few weeks ago about parents in Tennessee struggling to keep custody of their children when the parent is blind. Unfortunately, there has been no resolution yet. Now, not only have I been forced into family court, accused of all sorts of things including language that specifically identifies my blindness causing the inability to parent, but I am now forced into juvenile court. It has been alleged to juvenile court that I am neglecting my 16-year-old daughter. And it is in conjunction with and lists the other court case in family court as well. At this point, there has been no true organizational gathering focused on blind parents in Tennessee. I have been told by the NFB, that this is a minor issue. That this is not a big enough challenge to warrant others assistance. I have been called rude when attempting to elicit support, and I have continued to walk this journey alone. I do have firm and aggressive legal representation, thanks to individuals in this state who do feel blind parents are challenged in the court system. My family has been struggling with this for almost a year now, after battling it several years ago. This issue is not just my family issue. It is an issue in this state and probably others. It will not go away just because people look away from it. thank you again for your post and your interest. Sincerely,Sheri blind parent in Tennessee Sent from my iPhone
