[Trainer-talk] education level

AT the rehab agency in Texas they also look at years of experience and
level of knowledge in current popular blindness technology products.
For example, right now they would be looking for people who can show
experience training blind and low vision persons to use iOS devices.
They also would look for competency in training blind and low vision
individuals to use standard mainstream software popular in employment,
like Ms Office and Windows XP & 7, using a variety of screen readers
and screen magnification packages.
Recently, I have seen more job posts requesting that AT trainers have
a four year degree in Computer Science. This seems more common in
private training settings. The governmental agencies typically have
focused on provable experience. However, the popularity of AT
certification is gaining momentum. This could change what employers
require when hiring AT trainers in the near future. So far, as far as
I know, there are no accredited certification programs specifically
for trainers of assistive technologies for the blind.
Someone, please share if you know of any!
