hi,
a few months ago, i was also needing to step up to win 7 and office 2010 and
had the extra income and purchased a HP 8730w.
I ordered a dv7 but ended up sending it back as i wasn't completely happy
with the layout/specs when it arrived.
think about searching for refirb or last years stock.
that's the only way i got the same chassis of my xp laptop.
i got the same layout with:
500 gig hard drive, 8gig ram, dvd burner, 17" lcd, 54g wireless, rj45 and
rj11 was important as i only have dialup at a weekend cabin.
the kicker was i of course had to pay for it but got the full 3-year
warranty with next day on-site repairs
the total was about 1,450.
i didn't care that it came with win xp pro because i obtained win 7 64bit
for free from a microsoft event.
it is also legal to save $300 on office 2010 if you qualify to purchase
academic software.
