[Trainer-talk] training sessions with clients

I have been working in a similar situation, I am fortunate enough to
be working with the Voke rehab program however, so I can be a little
bit more flexible. I am able to take the line, if the client is unable
to come to me, it's the client able to obtain, travel to, and
maintain employment? I can also approach the counselor, and suggest
that the client be responsible for travel to training, as a
contribution to their VR appointment. When I have two or more clients
in an area that is 50 to 60 miles away, I will arrange for one and a
half to two hour session with each person.
We are addressing the online delivery option, and, for our state, we
keep running into the issue is that client demand face to face
training, and via the Internet, the trainer is unable to verify which
key the client pressed so when the client says "it isn't working "I
am not able to physically look at their keyboard and make sure that
they are pressing the right keys, and, because keyboards are not all
created equally, I may not necessarily be able to give the client
specific instruction.
We are attempting to create an assessment, that would provide me, as
the online instructor, with the clients current skill level. We are
also trying to establish a set of minimum skills that the client must
demonstrate mastery of, to an individual face to face.
This distance thing is incredibly difficult.

It seems that here, the only way to get this done is a driver. The driver's rates are 10 dollars an hour plus 55 cents a mile. My boss thinks I should make my sessions 3 or 4 hours with a 15 minute break in the middle. I am not used to teaching people for such a long period of time given the nature of adaptive technology; it can be quite overwhelming, confusing, and frustrating and 3 or 4 hours? I just don't feel it would be effective training. He is setting up some kind of online remote login but thats down the road a bit.
