Hello all, I am in need of some help! :)
I have a client with a machine running Win7, Microsoft2010, and JAWS 13.
When, using Outlook, he moves to the attachment list, either using
Windows keystrokes, or JAWS key strokes, and navigates to the excel
attachment, and presses enter to open the attachment nothing happens,
and he is no longer able to interact with the e-mail attachment list
or e-mail.. body. In addition, if there are multiple attachments, and
the excel attachment is first in the list he is unable to arrow past
it to the other attachments.
I have worked with it, and have no difficulty following the exact same
steps. The only difference is the amount of time it takes him to press
key strokes, or move his hand from the arrow keys to the enter key to
press enter; he moves slowly around the keyboard, and no amount of
training is going to change that... When he is arrowing among
attachments he waits for JAWS to finish speaking, and by the time that
happens the document has at least started loading in preview...
Steps we are using:
>From the body of an e-mail use Windows key strokes "shift + tab" to
move to the attachment list. Press right arrow to locate the desired
attachment, press enter to open the attachment.
or
>From the body of the message, press jaws key stroke "insert + a" to
move to the attachment list. Press right arrow to locate the desired
attachment, press enter to open.
I spoke with our IT team, and they believe that there is a registery
problem, and the bridge between outlook and excel is causing a clitch,
when the excel document loads in the preview viewer of the body of the
e-mail. I ran Microsoft and JAWS updates, and I worked with a few
Outlook settings, including disabling preview mode, and could not find
a solution.
When it comes to cleaning the registery, or uninstalling/reinstall
Microsoft, I am not comfortable addressing such issues, and asked the
client to have his tecnician look at it. His technician proceeded to
recreate the problem, and indicated there was no problem, when he
double clicked the attachment it opened just fine, and he looked at
the registery any way, and didn't find a problem... P.S., the agency
IT team does not perform routine maintence on client computers, but
they do help me identify possible problems/solutions, to help guide
the technicians who do work on client machines.
Are there any outlook settings that would disable the preview mode,
that would still allow the user to access the attachments? I found one
setting that disables preview, but when I enable it and return to the
E-mail I'm prompted that the e-mail has no attachments...
Are there any JAWS settings that I'm missing?
Would you have any tips/tricks/words of wisdom when it comes to
Microsoft suite, and repairing etc?
Thanks
