this was reported on another mailing list. Once I verified this problem,
I decided to contact FS
about it. Here is a copy of the email which I sent them, in case anyone
runs into the same problem. As an aside, this is not an issue specific
to JAWS but I have verified this with both window-eyes as well as with
NVDA. I suspect, therefore, that the problem is with Outlook not
conveying this information in a way in which other programs convey it to
screen readers. Here is my email to freedom Scientific, which will
explain the problem.
Hello.
I am writing to report an issue with JAWS 15 and Outlook 2010, which was
reported to me by a user of JAWS. I was able to verify the user’s
problem and will provide details below.
First, I am using the latest build of JAWS 15, which is version
15.0.10026, as of the time of this writing. The current synthesizer is
eloquence. The version of Outlook is 2010, with all available updates
installed.
When I am navigating through messages in the inbox, I can’t seem to find
a way of getting JAWS to identify the number of the currently selected
message, relative to the other messages contained within the list. As
an example, suppose I’m focused on the first message and there are
twelve messages contained within the list. I’d like to be able to
optionally have JAWS say “1 of 12” while I’m focused on the message.
I’ve tried modifying the MSAA options found in the advanced options
dialog of the JAWS settings center but any combination I tried proved to
be ineffective. Using insert-tab or the “read line” command also proved
to be ineffective.
1. Is there a way to enable JAWS to optionally speak this
information?
2. If there is no way to enable such a feature, would you consider
making such a change in a future update of JAWS?
Many thanks.
