Hours: 7 hours daily; 35 hours per week; 12 month
Salary: P3B/RT $46,233 – $51,949 starting salary depending on education level

Preferred candidates will have skills and knowledge about all aspects of current technology
used by persons who are blind or visually impaired including adaptive equipment, software,
and applications that may be used in academic settings. The preferred candidate will also
have a solid understanding of the educational needs of students who are blind or visually
impaired.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
At the request of educational teams, observes and assesses the technology needs of students within the Children’s Services Division of the Department of Rehabilitation Services, Bureau of Education & Services for the Blind; assesses the technological skill levels and needs of clients to determine vision related equipment and software needs for the purpose of access to the core curriculum; makes written recommendations to the educational team for vision-related equipment, adaptations and software; takes into consideration the visual and physical needs and capabilities when making recommendations for adaptive equipment; works directly with students when assessing technology needs including using a variety of equipment; works closely with regular education teachers, teachers of the visually impaired and Education Supervisor to make recommendations for the most effective and cost-effective vision-related equipment essential to a student’s participation in education; approves authorizations for purchasing equipment; upon need and request offers limited training in technology to students; confers with other staff and works cooperatively with schools and technology personnel regarding setting up and maintaining vision-related equipment; maintains case records on assigned caseload; performs related duties as required; may speak before professional and parent groups. Requires extensive travel throughout the state.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Knowledge of individual and group behavior; knowledge of methods and techniques of teaching the
blind and visually impaired; knowledge of current education, social, health and economic variables
and their relationship to working with the blind and visually impaired; knowledge of adaptive
technology; knowledge of interviewing techniques; interpersonal skills; oral and written
communication skills; ability to provide counseling and training to clients; ability to read and write Braille or translate printed material into Braille.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING REQUIRED:
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in education, social
sciences, family and consumer science or in a related field.
