Job Title :

8936 VOC REHAB PROGRAM SPECIALIST II

Minimum Requirement - Education :

Graduate of a college or university with a master's degree in rehabilitation, rehabilitation teaching or therapy, guidance and/or counseling, psychology, sociology, orientation and mobility, social work, special education, education with emphasis in vocational counseling or a related field.

Minimum Requirement - Experience :

Must have two years of professional experience in vocational rehabilitation, vocational assessment, employer relations or rehabilitation technology.

Substitution Clause :

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: A bachelor's degree in one of the above areas plus two years of professional experience in vocational rehabilitation, vocational assessment, employer relations or rehabilitation technology will substitute for the required master's degree.

Description of Job Duties

The Office for the Blind provides opportunities for competitive employment for consumers who are blind or who have visual impairments.

This position reviews and evaluates medical, psychological and vocational reporting information to determine the need for specialized vocational rehabilitation services for consumers who are blind or have visual impairments so those consumers can enter into and retain gainful employment.

This position assesses the need for rehabilitation technology and provides instruction in the area of assistive technology and computer training for consumers who are blind or have visual impairments. This position makes recommendations for assistive technology and devices to meet the needs of consumers who are blind or have visual impairments and develops on-the-job training sites for consumers to gain work experience.

This position also consults with co-workers and management in the development, coordination, implementation and monitoring of individual employment plans for consumers.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Characteristics of the Job :

Performs independent professional vocational rehabilitation functions such as vocational or technology assessments, rehabilitation technology, job development and job placement, supported employment, vocational evaluation, rehabilitation instruction, basic public relations and/or marketing functions in a rehabilitation program; and performs other duties as required.

Typical Working Conditions and Unique Physical Requirements :

Work is performed primarily in an office setting. Occasional travel will be required to coordinate services between customers and the agency.

Additional Requirements :

Upon appointment, employees in this class may be required to maintain a valid driver's license and required to drive a licensed vehicle. This status may be necessary for the length of time in this class. If this is necessary it will be listed in the specific position description for that position. Applicants and employees in this classification may be required to submit to a drug screening test and background check.
