[Trainer-Talk] Orbit Reader $400 20 Cell Break Down

Indeed, I don't see the problem with the Orbit Reader. The user will not
use Android really, will have no reason to know or care what the underlying
operating system is. Now don't get me started on the B2G from National
Braille Press, which does run Android, and whose hardware is lamentably
behind!

Hello:

If I understand correctly, the Orbit reader is intended to be a simple
device. It is intended to display braille and accept braille input for
commands and very basic notetaking. It therefore doesn't need much of an
operating system. A big problem for developers is that the Android system
gets upgraded from time to time. Moving to an upgraded system can require
the developer to rewrite and change the code used for a device. This sort of
work can take weeks and is expensive.

Regards,

Robert

Price on the Orbit may look good; but it runs off of a DEPRECATED Android
OS, JellyBean! Why is it that adaptive technology equipment manufacturers
keep shortchanging the blind? When done in the mainstream, the blind cry
"FOUL!" When done by an adaptive technology equipment
manufacturer/developer, however, all the blind are happy campers! Double
standard? No, good, great best business practice!

Sincerely,
Olusegun
