[Trainer-Talk] Printing labels and envelopes, or finding alternatives?

Hi Jim,
Check out the Mailings tab of the ribbon in Word. There are dialogs for printing labels and envelopes. I would recommend you print out labels because it is easier to manage a sheet of labels then putting a bunch of envelopes through your printer. The labels dialog will let you select the type of label you are using, by brand name and number. This should help with the lining up. Your printer should be able to accept labels or envelopes. It may have a separate tray for special items like this or it may use the same tray.

As Nancy described, Mail merge is also a great option because you can just update your spreadsheet and run mail merge again to prepare your next batch of labels. It is a little complicated at first but worth learning if you are going to send out your mailer on a regular basis.

Hope this helps,

Greg

I have used mail merge in word. The easiest way is to set up a table for your labels, and use mail merge to fill in the table for the labels. Your database might also be a table in word, but they are different. I use a reader to make sure that my printing is not going between labels. One rather full proof way to do that is to center the contents of the label. It isn't my favorite, because it looks a little bit funny, but it works well. I also center of the contents of the label in the cell vertically. I hope that helps.
