Hi, Stephen.

If a Web site developer is employing best practices and is coding the site properly then the experience should be equally accessible, regardless of the screen reader being used. Of course, there are other factors, such as browsers and bugs in the screen reader itself. However, using proper coding techniques a site should be equally accessible, regardless of the screen reader being used.

Hi All

I agree, do you know whether anyone or any website is tracking situations where it is best to use one Windows Screen Reader verses another? That would be a valuable resource for AT trainors.

Thanks

Hello,
I agree. I used to use JAWS exclusively, but all my computers, even at work, have both JAWS and Nvda on them. I primarily still use JAWS, but there have been times where Nvda works better or is the only option.

Greg -

I would be curious at trainers responses as well. I started teaching
a College Prep class at CCB four years ago, after working in Higher
Education for 20 years. I've encouraged all my college students to
learn and be ready to use NVDA as well as JAWS. Since then, the
reason has shifted from a free and portable use-anywhere screen reader
to one like you mentioned -- NVDA works better in many situations,
often much better. JAWS still works better in others. The key for
college students is to be as nimble and quick, like Jack Sprat.
Multiple screen reader proficiency isn't an option anymore, it's a
requirement.

Hi,
I took this survey but it misses something that has been on my mind
recently. I feel like increasingly, the people I train truly need to
be competent in multiple screen readers to be able to access
everything. I primarily use JAWS but there are times I have to use
NVDA to accomplish something JAWS can't, and more and more often, I
find myself firing up Narrator when a Windows screen or message will not read.

That doesn't even begin to touch IOS/Android, which most of my
clients use.

I'm curious to know how other instructors are handling this. Are you
providing instruction in multiple screen readers on the computer? If
so, what order do you teach them in? What does it look like?

Thanks for your feedback.

Hi everyone,

I have been curious about a few things regarding screen reader
usage, specifically around using the list of landmarks, headings,
and links. I created a really short survey (8 multiple choice questions).

Survey link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/XTV2PSD

If you use a screen reader, I would really appreciate you taking
this survey. Please feel free to share as well.

I will post results to the group as soon as I have results to share.

Thank you!

Joni
