Hi Nancy,
I would let the goals/potential of the student guide your expectations for their final project. If the goal for computer use in performing personal tasks at home, then perhaps properly formatting and editing a personal document, such as a letter, recipe, personal notes, or an invitation would be more appropriate. If they are headed toward college, then using one of the style guides to format their paper would certainly be appropriate. I probably wouldn't take on teaching the ins and out of one style guide but you could share the resources and have them choose one to follow.

Hello:

I have a person who is working on a research paper for his final project in technology class. His stated vocational goal is psychology. The plan has a goal of voice actor. How deep do all of you get into writing styles such as APA, Chicago and MLA? How long of a paper do you expect? What other kinds of final projects do you assign? I have one who will complete the program by thanksgiving with an independent living goal and some hope of non-clerical work. I have a user who will not have a computer available and uses his iPhone. The one doing the paper has about 6 weeks in the training center.
Ideas welcome.

Thank you.

Nancy Coffman
