I agree with Nancy. Enabling mouse echo will go a long way in allowing you to hear what she is seeing. If she is seeing something that's confusing her let the student be your screen reader as well. Ask her what she sees and, if needed, what else is around the text or item she is looking at. It will help if you can read some books or how-to guides from a visual perspective on how sighted people use a mouse, what they see when using one, etc.

Does she have zoom text magnifier/reader? If so, I would definitely have her turn the speech on, and make sure mouse echo is on.
