The second option is to enable two-factor authentication. If you enable to factor authentication, it means that whenever you sign into your Google or Gmail account from a new device, you will get a text message or you will be prompted to enter a six-digit one-time code from an authentication app, like one password or Google authenticator. The benefit of having a two-factor authentication system in place is that you can generate program specific passwords. You would then generate one specifically for your version of Outlook and use it for that program only. You do not need to remember this password since if you forget it or if you need to reconfigure, you can always regenerate a new one. This way, you don't ever put in your real Google password into Outlook. I hope this helps.

It also mentioned outlook 2016 and earlier either won’t be supported or it has to do something differently. It gave the option of using outlook 365, but I am wondering do I need to do this, or can I use outlook 2016 and 2013 as I have both versions? If anyone can assist in explaining what this all means, that would be greatly appreciated.
