Hi all,
i’m sure my colleague Eli may follow up soon after me. My name is Will, and I reside in Texas. I’ve been in the att training lane now for a little over two years or so, and recently joined Miles Access Skills Training based out of Oregon.
I have been fully blind since birth thanks to a genetic eye condition known as Leber congenital amaurosis or LCA for short. I had always been interested in pressing buttons and flipping switches ever since I was an infant, but things really took off for me when I was given Jaws and a Mountbatten in kindergarten, followed by a BrailleNote empower once I reached the fourth grade.
I was in the band playing percussion through most of high school and DJ’d my way through college to help pay the bills. Once I graduated, I knew att was critical to my success and wanted to do my part to make sure others could reach their full potential. I got my initial schooling through East Texas Lighthouse For The bBlind’s assistive technology instructor program, which is a 6 to 8 week fast-paced course. I trained for my local nonprofit for a time, some unexpected events occurred which ultimately led me here.
I look forward to exchanging ideas and sharing resources as this is definitely my passion for the long run.
All the best,
Will Walsh
