Brian:
This solution is the most efficacious one I know about, but be aware that
Google Drive Desktop does not give you access to the folder which lists
"files shared with me".
After many years, Google still has not remedied this problem with Google
Drive Desktop.
Kind regards,
Curtis Chong

My suggested workaround is downloading and installing *Google Drive for
Desktop <https://dl.google.com/drive-file-stream/GoogleDriveSetup.exe>*.
It's nice to have your Google Drive (or Drives, more than one account is
supported) directly integrated into Windows File Explorer and it gets around
this current issue.
I still use native Google Drive via the web occasionally, but would not have
even known about this problem, probably for weeks to months, as I have my
primary access to Google Drive (three accounts, actually) through Windows
File Explorer thanks to Drive for Desktop.
