Humberto Avila wrote, in part, "I personally am a huge proponent of the
theory that as a blind computer user, one must install more than one screen
reader and more than one Web browser (or perhaps several), and learn how to
use them."

All I can say, as someone who's been a screen reader tutor for almost 15
years now, is "Amen, brother!!"

There has never, ever been a time where things that are cranky with one
screen reader work just fine with another, things cranky in one web browser
work just fine in another, or a combination of those two factors taken
together.

JAWS and NVDA are very easy to use interchangeably for "in a pinch"
situations and web browser commands have become so nearly universal that
anyone familiar with one should not find it a herculean effort to use
another should the need arise. This situation is a perfect example where a
need arose, and will also fade pretty quickly. But you have to be ready to
act when these issues arise, and they do, particularly in the workplace,
but more generally, too.
