Will Walsh wrote, in part, "I am continuously finding is that a lot of
people really actually struggle with that gesture."

I've found just the opposite, but that really is neither here nor there.
No one has said one can never, ever customize gestures. It absolutely
makes sense sometimes to do so. But what doesn't make sense is being "too
hasty" (and only a given user can know what counts as "too hasty" in their
estimation) about doing so. My sense was that the original poster was
likely being too hasty, though, of course, I could be wrong. Only she can
make that determination.

I have yet to have a student who is not ready to throw their respective
devices across the room on many occasions during training. In fact, I tell
them this is going to happen, it's perfectly natural that it does happen,
and just not to do that, literally. When you're feeling really frustrated
during "early days" with any given thing, down to and including a single
gesture, give it at least some time and practice. But after you've given
it all the time and practice you have historically needed for mastery, and
just can't get there, then do what you need to do in order to make your use
of your device as easy and efficient as possible. This usually involves
only minimal customizing.

As a dear, departed friend of mine used to say: You've got to do what's
right for you!
