[Trainer-Talk] Please consider voting down resolution 13, the one about the ICC program

While I am not currently a member of the national Federation of the Blind, I am an assistive technology specialist and an instructor, and I do work in a very part-time way for the Tap and I Can Connect programs in Washington state. It’s also my understanding that all of us are welcome on this list, not just NFB members. I used to work with I Can Connect in Missouri and now I do this here. The resolution has probably been voted on by now,But I hope that people consider voting against it because that program is run and created by the federal communications commission. all the leadership of the FCC have been recently replaced. There are only like five commissioners. The rules have nothing to do with Congress or anything else. The entire program could be wiped out by the stroke of a pen, just like anything else right now that has anything to do with inclusion, equity, disability, or accessibility, so, it’s not exactly the best time to make waves, and they need to be made carefully and with deep consideration. of course it can be made better and fine tuned, but I don’t see where a resolution like this is going to be helpful. Although it would be nice to read the text of the resolution so that I can address it more directly. Thank you for hearing me out.

Scott, it was written by Maurice Mines. I tried speaking with him about this resolution prior to itsdiscussion at convention, but that did not work out. While Iagree with the spirit of what this resolution is asking for, I feel that it is based on misinformation.

>>> Hello fellow trainers. This is a plea for you to consider and vote down resolution number 13 about the I can connect program. The whereas statements are inaccurate. Nowhere on the Perkins website who manages 21 States, does it say that a braille sense is a computer. Furthermore, Perkins is not the only partner. There are other states, that handle their own ICC training and equipment orders. Colorado is one of them. I agree that a Braille sense is not a computer, but this resolution is simply not accurate. If somebody wants Perkins and the ICC program to know this, it can be done by a reworded resolution that is based more on fact.
