News Wire:
Ever wanted to just "get away" but didn't know how to go about
arranging it? Ever wished you could lounge on a beach and sip a
tropical drink, but worried about whether or not you'd be able to find
your way back to your hotel room? Ever think that if you just had a
sighted friend to travel with, you would love to go on an African
Safari or visit the pyramids of Egypt? For those of us who are
visually impaired, these luxuries and dreams are well within our
reach.
Come and explore how you as a blind person can venture forth into the
world of travel, either independently or with other visually impaired
companions. Wendy David, author of the just released "Sites Unseen:
Traveling the World Without Sight," will share her ideas and
experiences on the next Classroom of the Air on Tuesday, July 20.
Wendy David is a totally blind Clinical Psychologist who works at the
Veterans Administration in Seattle. When not at work, her passions
include traveling, skiing, meeting new people, and visiting distant
places. She and her blind partner Larry have traveled together with
and without their dog guides to Europe, Hawaii, South America, and
more. In her book, she describes the process she uses to arrange for
safe and fun travels and gives you many things to consider when you're
first impulse might be to say, "I don't know if I can do that."
"Successfully traveling the world without sight is not much different
than traveling independently from your home to the grocery store when
you canâ?Tt see the items on the shelves," says David. "It's similar,
but on a larger scale." This informal presentation will encourage
group participation, sharing of ideas, questions, and observations
from the audience. We hope to see you there.
