Subject: [Travelandtourism] Question from client interested in a cruise with
Hurricane Season
I got this question recently, and thought I would share my answer with you.
Q: I am interested in going on a cruise to the Caribbean during August of
next year, but what happens in the event of a hurricane.
A: Well first, always make sure that the cruise lines has all contact
information, e-mails, home number, cell phone number, and alternate phone
number, if you are using a travel agent, they will keep in touch with you on
the updates from your cruise line.
9 out of 10 times you will not know what is going to happen until you arrive
at the dock. Remember, Hurricane are not reason to return money for your
trip. Natural Disasters are not reason to refund money.
If you are out on the cruise ship already, they may have to leave that port
early or not go there at all. In the case of the cruise I took myself last
year, we were at sea an extra day instead of going into Nassau, Bahamas.
Depending on the weather your whole itinerary might be changed or if it is
just one day, then you will not go to that island (if this is the case with
not going to one of the ports, you will get refunded port charges from your
cruise)
The cruise lines are not going to risk passengers, staff and of course the
cruise ships due to bad weather or rough seas.
