I recommend getting insurance no matter what kind of trip you are going on.  Chances are you may never need it however, if you do you will be happy that you purchased it.  I have come close a couple of times of needing it myself.  I purchase trip insurance everywhere I go.  I feel much better with that extra layer of protection when I'm far away from home.
