U.S. regulators assessed Delta Air Lines $987,500 in fines for alleged safety violations that included allegedly flying planes with damaged nose cones and broken cockpit light sockets.In other news, Delta launched flights to 11 new destinations from New York/LaGuardia yesterday as the last phase of its planned expansion at that airport. The new routes are Charlotte, Charlottesville (Va.), Cleveland, Denver, Halifax, Houston, Montreal, Ottawa, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Roanoke (Va.). In addition, the carrier is increasing frequency on other LGA routes and investing $160 million to modernize two LGA terminals by the end of this year.US Airways now flies nonstop to five new destinations from Washington/Reagan National: Augusta, Ga.; Fayetteville, Ark.; Minneapolis, Montreal, and Toronto.AirTran will add four daily nonstops to its current schedule (three daily flights) between Baltimore and Fort Lauderdale, starting Sept. 6 and going through Feb. 13, 2013, with one-way fares from $59 when you book tickets for travel Sept. 6-Dec. 18.British Airways introduced a "London for Free" sale with two nights lodging in selected London hotels when your clients book a roundtrip U.S.-U.K. airfare through July 25 (the hotel stays are valid July 27-Sept. 30).
