Good evening Cheryl and everyone,
Since I did not want to monopolize the call an idea came to me while
Margo was discussing the issue of what to do with your guide dog when you
choose to go on a ride or visit an attraction where the dog cannot go or
where you wouldn't feel comfortable taking it. When at Islands of Adventure
last year I rode the "Jurassic Park River Adventure." The ride attendants
insisted that all of us in our party ride together. Since this is a
floom-type ride there's no way I would have been able to
secure Johnny on it. They showed me to a kennel on the boarding platform
where I could leave him while I rode and could pick him up after the ride
was over.
We could suggest to Mark the installation of waiting kennels at those rides
and attractions where the dogs can't ride or the owner chooses not to take
it in to the attraction. This would relieve the guide or service dog's owner
of having to kennel the dog at a remote location, the expense of kenneling
the dog, and having to be totally without it on days they wish to get some
thrills, chills, and spills, and still be able to use their dog during their
visit to the parks.
In conformance with park policy it would be the owner's responsibility
to kennel the dog prior to boarding the ride or entering the attraction, and
removing it when the ride is over or when they wish to move on to another
part of the park. Please pass this suggestion on to Mark for Disney's
consideration after it gets a round-robin from list members. All the best.
