This was sent to me directly, and wanted to share with you the answer that I replied to.
Cheryl Echevarria, PresidentNFB Travel & Tourism

We do have members that have traveled outside the country, but many of them don't talking on the talk list, we had last year at the National Convention during our Annual Meeting is Karl Smith (UT), who has gone many places with his kids and his wife and Robert Leslie Newman (who is President of the Writers Division). I also always have people on my radio show on thruoureyes.org in the past, who have traveled internationally as well as locally.
When traveling whether in the U.S. or outside the U.S. and when speaking to clients, I give them the same information.
You need to know your mobility skills. You may know your home town, but even outside your home town or new places, you need to know you skills, need to find you way around when there is no side walks, or wheelchair ramps, etc. Remember there are places here in our country that will not redesign something for accessible travel. Case in point, they just redid some access in the Statue of Liberty, but unless you are a good walker and not need the elevator, you cannot get to the crown or the torch.
Or if you are going to the Leaning Tower of Pisa again if you can walk up to the top great, but they will not put in elevators for you.
You have to know where you want to go and when, and with the right person working with you, whether you do all the arrangements yourself or higher a travel professional to get all the information for you, you need to plan ahead.
Not a lot ahead, but just enough so you can enjoy your trip that you are spending so much money on.
You may need a special needs tour operator, you may not.
Currently I am working with someone who is not blind, but is in a wheelchair and is booking on a cruise around Asia, and he wants to go to the Great Wall of China, the Cruise Line doesn't have an accessible tour of the wall, so I had to find a separate tour for him, and they said there is a wheelchair ramp access but in a different part of the Wall, remember the Great Wall is over 5500 miles in length, so it is a matter of planning ahead.
Again, it isn't where you are going and whether someone has been there or not, it is a matter of your mobility and flexibility when traveling.

Hi Everyone,
I have been conferring with my friend and she wanted me to ask: What countries do people have the most experience traveling through when they have gone to Europe? Also, has anyone taken the train in Europe to other countries?
Thanks?

My friend and I are planning to travel to France, Ireland, Scotland, Germany, Poland, Romania, Switzerland and Italy. We are looking at taking tours around castles, concentration camps and art museums. We are also thinking about staying in hostile a and traveling around by train, and when necessary, by either ferry or plane. Is there anything that anyone on the mailing list can help us with?

Our efforts are driven by a fundamental desire to exceed our Guests? expectations, and we aim to make your job, as one of our valuable travel professional partners, better as well.
> > At Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, we continually push the boundaries of creativity and innovation to deliver the best possible experience for our Guests. We?re always looking for ways to take what we do and do it even better. Over the past few years, we?ve devoted considerable time and resources to create a more immersive, more seamless and more personal experience for each and every Guest who spends time with us. I know there?s been significant speculation about these efforts among our fans, so we?re pleased to give you a glimpse into the work we are doing to take the entire Disney Guest experience to the next level.
> > Some of these initiatives are more apparent and can already be seen by our Guests ? like our interactive queues at Walt Disney World? Resort and the Enchanted Art on our cruise ships ? while others are more behind-the-scenes and are focused on ?how? visitors plan, access and enjoy their experiences with us. Over the next several months, we?ll be rolling out a collection of tools at the Walt Disney World Resort called MyMagic+ that will give Guests more opportunities to customize and personalize their entire visit.

> > We will see what happens on this. I will be having Mark Jones sometime in the future probably in April or May on the Echevarria Travel Show if you have been watching/listening over the last few months. Also when I attend the Annual National Convention of the National Federation of the Blind in July with the board member of the NFB Travel & Tourism we will find out for ourselves if they are accessible, or they have once again put out a product that is not accessible to everyone at the time of launching them.Disney and other places need to realize that you cannot have something and say it is for the Disney Guest Experience when some guests cannot experience them.
