Good afternoon:

Please check on our talk list here and our blog, Facebook Page, And Twitter
Page.

For those who are paid member or thinking about becoming a paid member. We
will be voting on 1 trip for our 2016 Travel & Tourism Trip.

We only do one trip a year. Our last one was in 2013, which was to Las Vegas
and Utah and we raised over $2000 for this division.

We did plan a trip in 2014 for Nashville, but we didn't have enough people
to go on that trip.

So over this past year, we had created a trip committee, we had members come
and participate in the calls, etc. The Committee Chairwoman is Amy Baron,
Johanna Taylor and myself.

We had taken polls from those members who responding on our regular monthly
meetings and email posts, as well as on Facebook and Twitter account.

We have come up with 2 options that we need a vote on at our meeting on July
5th. Please remember that only paid members can vote, if you are not
attending and your dues are up to date you can reply to
travelandtourism at nfbnet.org <mailto:travelandtourism at nfbnet.org> ; if you
haven't paid your dues and will not be attending the meeting or not
attending convention you can do so via paypal.com on our website, which the
link is here
http://nfbtravel.org/how-to-join-the-nfb-travel-tourism-division/

Please do not send a check at this time, our Treasurer is traveling and will
not be able to deposit any funds or take checks until convention. I can
though check who is paid and not paid from the 2014 Convention and now. To
join or renew dues it is $10 a year.

1st trip option that will take place September 18-23, 2016 - Savannah's
Southern Charm - This is a trip to Savannah, Georgia, which includes Bus and
Drive, hotels, entertainment, local tours, food experiences, etc.

2nd Trip Option that will take place September 21-26, 2016 - New York
Experience Trip - This is a trip of NY State and not just the city that
never sleeps which is New York City. Includes tour of Statue of Liberty and
Ellis Island, and other local sites of NY City and Brooklyn; Hyde Park, NY
which is upstate tours of the Culinary Institute of America with Dinner,
Tour of the Home of Franklin & Eleanor Roosevelt; Vanderbilt Mansion and
options tours; Cooperstown, NY - Baseball Hall of Fame and other tours of
Cooperstown. Again what is included bus and driver for NY, hotels, food
indicated on the itinerary and we have parts of the trip where you are on
your own to do things when we are not traveling to go shopping, relax, etc.

We need a vote by our meeting. We are working with a travel agent who has
worked in the industry for years, since I cannot do the trip this year, it
would be a conflict of interest. We have had her on a few of our meeting
calls so you all can get information from her.

Now here are a few things about these trips or doing more in the future:

As a member of the division, which we have over 25+ members on paper, but do
not participate throughout the year.

Those of you who are voting on either trip your responsibility is one to go
on the trip or for whatever reason that you cannot go, you are responsible
for getting the word out to your chapters, and getting at least 1 or 2
people to go.

FYI: These people do not have to be NFB members, nor blind, they can be
anyone who like to travel, on our last trip we educated those about
blindness, when to ask a blind person for help, and experiences for all of
us who are blind to answer the question, why should blind people travel when
we cannot see anything. I will be sending out emails to state and division
presidents once we know the exact trip we are doing.

Thank you for reading and participating, and the officers and myself of the
NFB Travel & Tourism Division look forward to seeing you at National
Convention and working with you throughout the 2015-2016 year.

Thank you.

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can have the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back.
